The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, today (Friday 3 September) visited the Brick Lane Mosque in east London, at the heart of London’s Muslim and Bangladeshi communities.

During the visit, the Mayor reiterated his call for 5,000 adult volunteers to work with uniformed youth groups such as the Scouts. He also asked for members of Muslim communities to put themselves forward as Ambassadors for the 2012 Games. 8000 Ambassadors are being recruited to provide the best welcome and experience of London to the millions of visitors expected during summer 2012.

Local Assembly Member John Biggs warns that Mayor Boris Johnson wants to get rid of up to 145 sets of traffic lights and pedestrian crossings from London’s streets.  The traffic lights proposed for the chop in Newham are the junctions of Mitre Road/Abbey Road/Laywick Street and the UeL access at Gallions Roundabout.

A blind man who needed 24 stitches after struggling to save his guide dog from attack, and a woman whose dog was killed and nearly lost her fingers trying to save it were amongst Londoners joining the Deputy Mayor for Policing, Kit Malthouse’s pledge today demanding urgent government action on dangerous dog legislation.

Kit Malthouse launched the public pledge against so called ‘weapon’ dogs in Battersea Park alongside the victims of dog attacks, animal welfare organisations and park wardens.
