Dust Mites in
Your Mattress
Dust
Mites can cause many medical problems for some people. How many
times have you or a family member awakened from a night's sleep with
: Itchy skin or red and irritated eyes? Or how about a stuffed up
nose, a barrage of sneezes, wheezing or tight chest, painful head,
or sinus ache, a general feeling of fatigue, or even depression, all
for no particular reason?
The fact is that you may be suffering from dust mites that are in
your mattress! There are millions of these dust mites sleeping with
you. These microscopic dust mites have been medically proven to
trigger a whole host of allergic reactions, like asthma, bronchitis
and more.
Bacteria and
Spores in your mattress
Bacteria &
Viruses
Without
exception, the members of this class of micro organisms are
pathogens which can cause infections, fever and other symptoms.
These include Micrococcus, Staphylococcus, Enterococcus,
Psuedomonads, Bacillus, Fel d1, Can F1 and Coliforms. Some types of
viruses have become much more aggressive in the past several decades
and many of these can be dangerous to your health. In some cases
they are even resistant to antibiotics.
Fungi and mould
These include Asperigillus, Rhizopus, Alternaria, Geotrichum and
Cladosprium. Some of these spores can cause serious allergic
reactions, some of which can be fatal.
Flakes of dry skin
The human body sheds as much as 1.5 grams of dry skin flakes daily,
more than one pound every year! People with psoriasis lose many
times more. A large amount of this dry skin ends up in the mattress
and grows bacteria, becomes rancid and causes an unpleasant smell.
That typical bedroom odour!
Other residues
These include salt from perspiration, dried urine, possibly dried
semen and other bodily fluids.
And from your pets...
Where pets sleep or play on a bed, they introduce many other harmful
residues and micro organisms, many of which have been collected
whilst outdoors in sometimes, very unhygienic conditions.
Other areas of concern around the home
Although the highest percentage of Dust Mites and mite excrement is
in the mattress, there are other areas in the home where they can be
found, and for those who suffer from Asthma, it is also important to
identify these. They are usually pillows, duvets, carpets and rugs,
cushions and other soft furnishings. Treating these areas can also
be of considerable benefit to the Asthma sufferer.
